Trickster

Duane McDiarmid, an experimental artist and professor of art at Ohio University he has brought the Trickster Project to the Santa Fe area. McDiarmid is currently an artist in residence at SFAI.  McDiarmid and his work will be among the artists and work available to view at the SFAI upcoming open house May 21st.

I will then place the work in the landscape for several days, on the public lands at Diablo Canyon. What I most need is individuals who can become excited about the works temporary presence in their domain. Further what is desirable is for people from the community to be involved supporting logistically, helping to install watch facilitate and de install the work on site – during some portion of May 23 through May 27– Duane McDiarmid, duanemcd@yahoo.com, 740 541 0962 cell ph

Plan is to go out there early on the 23rd and camp though the 26th rtearing down and loading out on 27th—so this piece needs to be dissembled and carried about 500 yards, then watched for 4 or five days –night and day—obviously I can not do this alone. For the carry in carry out I need at least two strong helpers—none of the pieces are over 130 lbs most around 40 lbs, some have wheels that make it easier on some terrain…

Then of course I can’t stay awake 5 days str8 so I need watch help which simply means hanging out in the desert camping nearby which is pretty fun as people stumble onto the piece and have ice cream and get very social.. The Trickster project features a solar powered ice cream freezer and computer interface that rests upon a non-motorized mobile platform supported by wheelchair wheels—it also has several channels of self recording video.

I will now be sharing this work with small groups of the public for periods 3 to 7 days in a variety of southwestern landscapes—providing for happenstance visitors and hikers a remotely located ice cream social event that celebrates our technological capabilities and provides a forum for participant initiated discussion.
